This position is required to work on-site 5 days a week.What we do: The Principal Civil Certification Engineer is responsible for aiding in the growth and development of the Certification team to become a robust center of excellence for regulatory guidance. They oversee maintaining an up-to-date library of regulatory guidance materials, providing input and guidance to lower-level engineers within the Certification team and the Supernal organization. Additionally, they will lead the writing of department processes, develop training materials, and create opportunities within Supernal to deploy certification expertise. This role also involves representing Supernal within the industry as a technical subject matter expert and assisting the policy team in driving efforts to shape regulatory policy.What you can do:

  • Support the Civil Certification Engineers in their roles at the project level
  • Serve as a knowledge base for certification and airworthiness topics and remain current on the latest regulatory and industry guidance and practices
  • Own the development of Supernal Certification processes and procedures and provide inputs, guidance, and support as needed
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to the team and cross-disciplinary research & development teams working on the development & certification of autonomous, passenger-carrying, eVTOL aircraft
  • Act as a technical check for documents and plans to ensure alignment with regulations. This can include compliance checklists, certification plans, conformity inspection plans, issue paper responses, and FAA forms as applicable
  • Ensure that regulatory compliance is integral to the development process through training and knowledge transfer
  • Develop materials to ensure an up-to-date awareness of the type certification process and requirements across the Supernal team
  • Participate in meetings with program management, other senior leaders, and general staff as noted above, and with government representatives (Internal and external) and industry as needed
  • Partner with PMO organization to implement build plan
  • Up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assignedWhat you can contribute:
    • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Mechanical, Systems, Industrial Engineering, or other related field required; Master's degree preferred
    • Minimum of fifteen (15) years in systems design, development, safety analysis, integration, and certification (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
    • Mastery of the FAA Type Certification, Supplemental Type Certification, and Production Certificate processes
    • Experience working on type certification of an aircraft from start to finish under any of 14 CFR Part 23/25/27/29 or other relevant regulations
    • Experience with DO-254, DO-178, & DO-160
    • Excellent working relationships with FAA and other regulatory personnel
    • Experience with requirements management
    • Experience with ARP4754A and ARP4761 safety processes
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Proactive delivery of communication and follow-up
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
    • Proficiency with Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables, MS Office SuiteYou may also be able to contribute:
      • Successful foreign validation of FAA Type Certificates preferred
      • Experience with electric propulsion air or ground vehicles preferred
      • Experience with 14 CFR Parts 33, 35, and 36 preferred
      • Experience with the FAA TSO process preferred
      • Experience in an ODA environment preferredBase pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
